St. Enoch Shopping Centre, Glasgow
Studiotech appointed us as their fabrication partners to bring to life their design concept for St Enoch Shopping Centre.
The design consisted of six ‘nest’ style lighting pendants, with colour changing capabilities, to captivate visitors as they walk through the Centre.
Working in close collaboration with Tim Ashley, Studiotech’s Project Lead, our engineers devised a way of manufacturing the nests in sections due to their sheer size and weight. Each nest measures just under 5 metres in diameter and weighs 250 kilos. We researched various materials for the scrolls to minimize weight whilst maintaining strength and rigidity.
Each nest consists of bespoke rolled and painted aluminium frames which support 24 individually made illuminated scrolls with 15 degree increments between them, the pendants were built in 4 sections and each individual scroll was added separately.
The end result is breath-taking with Tim Ashley, Project Lead, Studiotech commenting: “These have been a long time in the making but I’m so happy to see them finally installed and looking amazing in the space.”
